Arjun Bhatia, Assistant VP of Revenue Cycle at Wellstar Health, shares the five areas that will be most important for revenue cycle leaders to focus on in the coming years.
What do you see as the top 5 priorities for revenue cycle leaders over the next few years?
Arjun Bhatia: “From my vantage point and experience being a revenue cycle leader: 1) My focus has changed from just collecting patient cash, and now our focus is more on collecting that patient cash with empathy. 2) Doing more with less has become the norm. 3) Innovation is going to be a key part of what we do, so innovation with automation is the path forward. 4) The patient is not just an account number, so we have to look at the patient in a holistic sense and treat them as humans, and we can still create that patient financial experience and let the patients come through our doors and still feel good about the care they receive. Not just the clinical care, but also the financial care that we offer.
"The final thing I want to share with the group is 5) if we truly want to focus on reducing denials, the effort has to be put into the front end, whether it is the people, the workflows, or the technology."
